Developing mind grabbing ad copy in website promotions to increase targeted traffic is the one internet marketing skill that you don’t want to neglect.

Website promotion and copywriting go hand in hand when your working to build your online business.

One without the other won’t get you very far.

Getting your message across whether in a small classified ad or on a full webpage requires several specific points, or requirements, to be met if you want it to be effective website promotion and get people to respond to it.

(1) Make it LASER TARGETED. Be specific. Painting a broad brush stroke type of ad will not get you the response you’re after. What you want to do is get the folks who are very interested in what you have to offer, to click through to the splash, info or sales page.

(2) MIND CATCHING Headline. The single most important sentence for your ad. If you can’t capture your readers attention on the first line they’ll never read the rest of your ad. How can you do this? Create curiosity that compels the viewer to read on.

(3) Tell the person about the BENEFITS. What’s in it for him/her. Is it going to solve their problem. One of the main reasons people search for a product, service or knowledge is that they have a problem that needs to be solved and they can not seem to come up with a viable solution on their own.

The key to helping them to decide on your product or service is to write as if you’re talking directly to only one person because in fact you’re only trying to get the attention of one person at a time no matter what form of mass communication you’re using.

(4) Always take the time to build in some security into your ad copy. What I mean by this is that you should always include a guarantee for your product to work or a return policy that tells the buyer, “Hey you are safe with me when you buy this product”.

If you want to get the most from your ad you should always try to make the reader feel that they can easily use your product after they get it. If you say it can be difficult or hard you’ll lose a lot of people.

People want to avoid pain or loss and/or feel like they have gained what they want or have gotten closer to achieving something by using your product. If you can satisfy that need to avoid a loss or have the person feel like they have gained something of real value you will have done your job at writing effective ad copy for your website.

Remember one thing - your ad is designed to do only one thing - convince the reader to take action and click on the link you’ve provided so they can learn more.

If you use the formula above you’ll surely get more potential click throughs and sales.

Buying and using your own giveaway promotional items can be an excellent way of advertising a small business. Even work from home businesses can be easily marketed in this way and it doesn’t need to cost much, nor is it really complicated to give the gifts away to future customers.

Take the bog standard printed pen as a great example of one of the many promotional items on the scene. These are really great – they don’t need to cost much, can be bought in bulk and are simple to distribute to potential customers. So go out and get a small batch of these gifts printed up with your contact details and name. For a choice of contact details, you should be able to fit onto most pens a telephone number and an email address or website URL , as long as they aren’t too unusually lengthy. Now, carry some of these with you at all times in your bag, pocket of car.

For example of an unusual method, recently I was on holiday and we had met up with another family and become friendly. When it was time for us to pack up and go home, we wanted a way of swapping each other’s contact details so that we could get in touch when both back home. This is pretty much the same as what many people do on holidays and nothing unusual. The other family passed us over their details written quickly on the back of a beer mat. This, unfortunately, is an excellent way of loosing the details, which we have been guilty of before. As luck would have it, I was able to email him from the hotel, so that we both had each other’s emails safely stored. But a better idea, and more fun I then realized, would be to get a batch of pens printed and just give the family a couple of pens. Not only have they got your details, but you are making sure that you are telling them your business and as luck would have it, he might now become a new customer of mine.

Of course, these passing acquaintances aren’t reliable for distributing enough promotional gifts to make a batch worth while, at least not enough to make a large return. But if you are taking part in activities such as distributing catalogues, then why not add a pen to the catalogue before you post them? By putting it into the clear envelope that the catalogues are protected in, there’s an added incentive for the recipient to open the envelope, take the pen and maybe they will be more likely to order from your catalogue.

Promotional products are also great to leave as an alternative calling card when you have been to see new or potential customers. Leave them a gift, as well as or instead of a card, and they are more likely to be able to find your number when they have decided to buy from you. There’s load of uses for promotional gifts, no matter how big or small your business, even if it is a home business.

What is food cost and how does it effect your business? Food cost percent is the percentage amount of total food purchases in relationship to the amount of revenue generated.

An example:
You are proposing Chicken Picatta for a menu price of ten dollars, and the ingredients cost you two dollars and fifty cents. To form your food cost percent you would simply take cost of food divided by menu price equals food cost percent. In this example, you would take $2.50 divide by $10.00= .25 or 25 percent.

Now what does this mean when your starting your own catering business. usually in the world of catering most menus are sold as . A dinner menu would contain a salad, starch, vegetable, and dessert to compliment the main course. So you would have to add up all your costs and divide by the given menu price.

Having a good knowledge of food cost will help you determine your menu pricing and make sure your business is lucrative, distinctively in respect to helping you determine menu costs. Ideally, food cost percent would be 20 to 25 percent. Of course this also depends on what you are serving and what you can mark it up for. An example would be a Lobster Tail, it might cost you $15.00. You can sell it for $45.00. Your food cost would be 33 percent, but your making $30.00 a person. Going back to the
original Chicken Picatta example, you were making $7.50 per cover. That is good, but I’ll take the $30.00 per plate and higher food cost any day of the week.

You do want to push your product for the highest return possible. When determining menu price, you must also consider what the competition is charging. You don’t necessarily need to be the cheapest, but you must be able to justify the charge. I would also suggest implementing a service charge, they are typically 17-20%. This will help equalize vehicle maintenance costs, rental, etc, and you will have some left over to put in your pocket.

Knowing your food cost will help you manage your company. It effects your bottom line remarkably. As an example, you are averaging one thousand people per week. If your food cost is 25% of your money out, it would be two thousand five hundred dollars. If your food cost is 30% of your purchases, it would be three thousand dollars. The difference is five hundred dollars per week. That’s a twenty six thousand dollars per year raise. If you are just starting off, you’re probably not going to do those covers to begin with. Just remember, starting off with good practices will stay with you for the duration of your business.

Remember, you do want to have fun with starting your own home catering business but your key motivation must be to make money. If you are money motivated, then starting a catering business is for you.Work intelligent, work hard, and profit well.
